Twitter Plans To Launch a Keyword Filter

Twitter Plans To Launch a Keyword Filter on Freepps Blog

The issue of online bullying is nothing new no matter which social media platform you use. Due to the fact that people are able to hide behind anonymous nicknames and photos gives, users have the freedom to say whatever they want regardless of the consequences. After some backlash against Twitter and their passive position when it comes to trolling, the company reportedly decided to take action and plans to introduce a new keyword filtering feature.

How can users benefit from this feature?

Following the introduction of the comment blocking feature on Instagram (which can currently be used only by business accounts and popular users), Twitter decided to do something about the online harassment using keyword filtering system. Once the function becomes available, users will get an opportunity to block offensive words from being typed under their Twitter posts.

For a lot of people who deal with trolls on a daily basis, especially high-profile users who have a lot of activity on their accounts, it is certainly a long-awaited update.

There is no doubt that this decision is quite a challenge for a company, as protecting the freedom of speech has always been a priority. At the same time, a lot of users believe that providing a safe place for people to interact should be of the utmost importance.

The new feature of Twitter will reportedly be more open to customization as opposed to Instagram, which means that users will be the ones to decide which words, topics, or hashtags they find offensive in their timelines. As for more information on the filters, we will have to wait for Twitter to provide us with more details.

What are your thoughts on these ways of dealing with online bullying? We’ll be interested to read what you think in the comments.
