360 Security Antivirus Review: All-Round Defences
The Chinese antivirus app by Qihoo with a digital name which means full protection of all your perimeter is more than just an antivirus. The service offers you selection from 3 local engines (Avira, Bitdefender, QVM II) and its own cloud service 360 Cloud.
As of 2016, the 360 security app is considered one of the most popular, effective and trustworthy. Though there have been scandals about tests where this software had a different engine from final one, more 200 million users have tried this service and found it worth it.
The app has all it really takes to be a great security controller for a mobile device. As we know, malware and phishing are just a part of the dangers lurking for your gadgets.
One of the greatest problems we run into is a lack of memory and CPU power. The tab capsed BOOST offers a tool for solving these problems. With just one tap you can boost the performance of your device by percent shown on the screen. In the bottom the app shows the numbers of apps consuming memory and draining battery. Tap on any of the icons to see the complete list of these apps and (if you need to) close them just by tapping on BOOST button below.
The next tab is named CLEAN and meant for cleaning your system from junk files. At the launch, the app pre-scans the system and detects junk files, so it won’t take long for the app to estimate the space it can free for you. The app marks both temporary system files and apps cache as junk, so you can select which apps to steer clear of the cache and which are better left as they are. Both before and after cleaning the tab displays the memory of the device and of the SD card.
Finally, the ANTIVIRUS tab shows the status of the device protection. The only button in the middle of the page is meant for scanning, and the process takes seconds (well, minutes, it depends on memory) even on old devices. While the system is scanned, the indicator shows the percentage of the work done.
After the scan is done, the app shows the potential threats and offers you the choice on how to handle them. The threats list may include possible unauthorized access to your confidential apps and data so 360 security app offers you AppLock feature, system vulnerabilities and other kinds of threats.
As the app is installed, it integrates its panel into the notification bar. This panel offers quick access to all the tabs of the interface described above, and also quick access to numerous functions: torch (if your device has a hardware flashlight), wireless interfaces, screen brightness, rotation mode and other system controls. This little trick is done better than it is in pure Android.
The app also offers its own task manager able to kill processes almost directly from the taskbar. And yes, it has a quick clean button to kill’em all!
iOS users get additional tools: a photo manager that helps in organizing photos and deleting duplicates, plus battery control module.
There’s no reason to complain about a thing. The appearance of the app seems clear, with a lot of blank space, like Oriental paintings. The color scheme seems the simplest, but it leaves a good impression. Anyway, the app made to optimize your system doesn’t have to impress you with graphic luxury, it has to work, and so it does.
It’s a great decision to make the ads hidden behind a small icon in the corner. It won’t bother you unless you tap it at will and (maybe) find some more good apps for yourself.
It’s worth noticing that the app’s interface is decently translated into most popular languages. Unlike many Chinese products, especially those of the 2010s, this app is an example of professional translation.
The app is made so simple that even a beginner can make it out. It has proven to be rather stable and safe app, and 360 Security’s appetites are rather moderate. Anyway, it won’t slow down your system but will, on the contrary, get it in good shape.
The app is easily accessible, it doesn’t take much time for its operations. Your device won’t suffer from it like the 2000’s PCs did with heavy antivirus packs like Kaspersky’s. This service is lightweight and cloud-based, so you won’t have to keep tons of signatures and bases in your ROM.
Cross-platform use 7/10
As Android is deemed the most vulnerable platform, the developers concentrated their efforts on 360 Security for Android. Anyway, threats like phishing are common for all platforms, so iOS users can download 360 Security app from AppStore as well.
360 security app is offered for free. That doesn't mean that its developers are all about charity. The data they collect from users is then used in commercial projects like corporate security solutions.
In fact, that shouldn’t confuse you in any way. The app has no hidden payments required, so you can use it as it is. Even more, there are no annoying ads promoting Pro accounts or Premium versions. Oh, the beauty of Chinese products!
Though we wouldn’t get angry if Qihoo had a minute to place some self-advertisement in a small and almost out-of-sight Ads icon (in the right upper corner). This company has a suite of useful services like “Find My Phone” or “360 Battery Plus” that would enhance that system care.
The Bottom Line
If you install 360 Security, you really pump up your phone. And if you have enough gray matter in your brain not to visit suspicious and risky sites or install APKs of unknown origins, this app will be rather a system optimizer than an antivirus. Its toolbar may enhance your mobile experience a lot, make it much better than it was provided by the original Android.Collapse
360 mobile antivirus app is more than just an antivirus; it's a system booster, an interface mod, and a cleaner at the same time, so even if you don’t believe in mobile virus horror stories, there’s a reason to try boosting your system with it.
