I enjoyed the plot. I like fiction involving science and future technologies. But it had long, tedious sections of preaching atheism. I appreciated that the author threw in a few things at the end to make us uneducated, foolish, backward people feel better about our Christianity. Sorry. It just felt like that when listening to it. He also misrepresented our view when he said something (I’m not sure of the exact quote, but..)like, “Christianity is by its own definition a ‘faith’, an unsubstantiated belief with no evidence”. Hebrews 11 actually says that faith is the “substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” He (God) is evident from the complexity of the universe, down to His work in my life in a hundred ways every day. I’ve witnessed miracles of healing physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Like the wind, He is not seen with our eyes, but by the evidence of the results, and the feeling of Him. Science and God are not opposed to each other. Despite the sarcasm I gave at the beginning, I really did appreciate his throwing out some evidence for a Creator. Anyway, the plot was interesting. The author knows how to draw out the suspense of an upcoming moment in the story. He’s very creative as well. I felt there was a tad too much explaining of the obvious. It’s a little more fun to realize.a new point, or have another piece of the puzzle come together in your mind without having it explained overmuch. That aspect wasn’t too bad though. This was my first book by this author. If his other books don’t follow the religious pattern of this one, I’d love to get them here on Audible. He is a very talented, entertaining author.

Just finished the Audible Audio Book! A great story beginning to end. I almost bought a PDP-8 for about $5,000 for our children to grow up with. I bought a new 68 Pontiac Catalina for about $3,333 instead. I worked with computers every day since then. I blinked and my teen age son was bringing a TRS-80, the first programmable computer into our home. He put 50% down and paid off the bank loan making double payments all from his seven days a week AM newspaper route. I never imaged Dan Brown would honor the TRS-80 by giving it a small, yet key role in Origin. Enjoy this Great Book. I hope Tom Hanks gets the lead role again!

I spend a lot of time in Midwest small towns so I see examples of both decaying and successful towns. It all depends on the local leadership and Christian fellowship as I see it. I’ve also met a lot of high school level adults that didn’t swear like his grandmother but I did know the few that used the f-word in every sentence as well. I just wish he could’ve conveyed the grittiness without the swearing. Now that he’s a Yale-trained lawyer I would hope that his vocabulary in the present tense wouldn’t need to use swear words. At least for the sake of his wife and kids.
