Comparing this to apps like YouVersion, Glo Bible, or Blue Letter Bible would be really unfair, because Logos is in a whole separate category. (It’d be like comparing a Ford Taurus to a Lamborghini because they’re both cars. While true, it’s not a helpful comparison.). Still, I will offer a brief comparison. Logos for iOS comes with very few preloaded resources (but it does have some!). So if you want a simple to use Bible study app with free resources included and no further purchase necessary, look to BLB or Glo Bible. These offer some basic resources which will suffice for most Sunday school level research, and won’t break the bank. If you already own logos desktop software or Logos resources, or you’re a serious student of the Bible looking to expand your (digital) Bible library and do in-depth study for sermon prep, Bible translation, or seminary, look no further. Logos is the one for you. As a stand-alone iOS Bible app, it’s great. But, this app is best used as a complement to the desktop software. Logos (including here both the iOS and desktop versions) is a great resource. You can purchase and download a myriad of resources—atlases, commentaries, Greek and Hebrew resources, etc. The variety of resources available to you is quite vast. Of course, Logos is not known for its bargain basement pricing, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the low price of the monthly specials they run. Still, even at its normal pricing, I’ve found it a worthwhile investment for my needs as a seminary student and Bible translator. The iOS app could use some improvements, but overall, it’s pretty good. I would like to see improvements on searching capabilities when using it offline (I work in remote locations without internet), and the inclusion of a few features like personal books and such. But, it works great for 80-90% of my needs. There’s just a few things I find myself relying on the desktop version for. I don’t know if that’s a critique on the Logos for iOS app, though. It’s probably just more of a recognition that an iPad can’t do all that a laptop can, at least for now. So, if you’re mostly happy with he features YouVersion offers, then Logos is overkill. But, if you find yourself dissatisfied with the level of study provided by apps like BLB or Glo Bible or are looking for a one stop shop for sermon prep, Bible study, digital book library, etc., then look no further.

I’ve been a Logos user since Logos 4 landed a number of years ago. I’ve upgraded through the years, and have found the iOS app really beneficial. Last week I found myself in a situation without WiFi. “No problem,” I thought to myself. “I’ve got a number of resources downloaded.” When I opened the app, it seemed to work. But as soon as I redirected to another passage, the resource closed, and the Lexham Bible opened in its place. I closed the app and tried again. Same result. “That’s odd,” I continued to think. I did a full hard reset, but no luck. The app wouldn’t allow me to open Downloaded resources and then redirect to other passages. I could scroll (and scroll and scroll and scroll) but I couldn’t type in another passage and immediately go to it. As soon as I had WiFi again, I triple checked to ensure the resources I had were indeed downloaded to the device. They were. Overall, Logos is a great app, and the software for PC’s/Macs is unparalleled. I was surprised to come into this recent situation, but it happened. Hopefully, a forthcoming patch will resolve the issue for me...and anybody else who may run into similar struggles when using the app without WiFi.
