Blio Review

Download Blio, a FREE app for iPhone and iPad that will have you reading eBooks as never before.

Blio is smart. Smart enough to know that books are more than just words: there’s style, presentation, and a world of color. And smart enough to know all of that enhances your reading experience. That’s what you love about books. So books in Blio have the same layout, fonts, and full-color images that you enjoy in the print version of your favorite titles. Finally there’s an eBook reader that brings not only novels but cookbooks, travel guides, how-to manuals, textbooks, and children’s books to life.

But eBooks are intended to be different… that’s why they put that little “e” in front of “book”. eBooks should do more: they should leverage everything that the device you’re reading on is capable of. Blio does just that. Many books can read aloud by a text-to-speech voice (purchase required) or audiobook, with words highlighted as they are spoken. You can look up words you might not be familiar with or get more information on a topic by searching Google, Wikipedia, and more without ever leaving your book.

Reading eBooks should be enjoyable and easy, no matter where you are, and no matter what device you’re reading on. So Blio offers ReadLogic, a feature that knows to automatically zoom and navigate to the next logical place for you to read, whether it’s the next paragraph, a caption, or a sidebar. Then there’s the Blio Bookvault, a virtual library that you can access from anywhere. So you can read a book on any of your devices.

Blio lets you choose which way to view a book, including single page, dual page, flowed view, or speed reading view, all kept in sync as you read the book. You can go to the next page by tapping or swiping, with a three-dimensional effect that will astound you.

Because eBooks should be for everybody, Blio is. Synchronized highlighting of words and a serial presentation view can assist those with reading disabilities. On iOS 5.0 and above, Blio empowers the visually impaired to do anything that fully sighted users can do, including reading in any of the available views.

You can download books you've bought from the Blio Bookstore, where you’ll find the latest titles from over a hundred top publishers. You can add as many free books as you like, in EPUB, PDF, or XPS formats, via iTunes or the web.

Try a whole new eBook experience with Blio, where books are more than words.

This is a great app for when I borrow e-books from my library. It replaces my kindle app nicely. The only complaints that have found thus far is that it doesn't automatically update to the furthest read page when you bouncing between different sources. I tend to read a single book on my iPhone and iPad, based on the location when I have a moment to sneak in a page. If I didn't leave off on that device last or don't re,ember where exactly I left off on the other device, then. It's frustrating to find your bookmarked spot. Other then that, it's a great app. The other big complaint I have is that sometimes it works and sometimes when I open the app, it crashes and closes instantly. No matter what I do, it doesn't work until it's ready to. When you are in the middle if a book you can't tear yourself away from and you've already borrowed the book to this app, it's highly frustrating. Hopefully, these problems will be resolved soon. Until then, I will continue to suffer through the aggravation with Fingers crossed.

this app is an absolute utter joke. I can't even believe this app is approved by Apple. It doesn't even work most of the time, it hasn't been updated, it is just a complete waste of space on one's home screen. There are plenty of other accessible book reading solutions out there for the blind right now, including voice dream reader, which works very well. I don't see the need for this app and quite frankly it's an insult. don't listen to the app description, they just like to lie to you. This app is dead, it's been dead for years and years. Thank you and have a great day.

I started to use this app to borrow books from my local library and it was great. (That was last year.) But I haven't used it for the past six months or so, and now it's utter crap. If I exit the app, or put my iPad to sleep, I have to re-download the book to start reading again. And of course, there's no bookmarks to indicate where I left off. And half the time when I'm reinstalling it "fails" so I have to kill the app and try to download again. What a pain! If they don't fix it soon, I'm going to delete this app. It's not worth the hassle.
