Guide Vidmate: Download Videos to Your Android Review
Guide Vidmate is a download manager for video and audio, with a built-in converter. No wonder it’s banned on Google Play because it can download from YouTube, but you still can download VidMate from other sources and install on your phone or tablet.
Functionality – 5/5

If you like to watch videos or listen to music even when offline, you need to download videos to your phone. Vidmate can save videos for you by the link you provide, or from its suggestions. It can also extract audio tracks on the go if you want just an audio file to listen to. Before downloading, you can select available quality to save your drive space or to enjoy the best video and audio.
Design – 5/5
The app is strictly functional, with its own browser and stream player, and media catalog to search videos from. It displays the most popular videos of your region, sorted so you can select music, sports, news, gaming, and featured videos. There is a field for URLs to paste and a special section for viewing downloaded files, with its built-in player or any external one. Files are available in Download folder as well.
Usability – 5/5
That’s the app we lack on Play! The reasons are clear: Google doesn’t want its videos to be downloaded from YouTube unless you buy Premium account. Vidmate can parse pages and extract direct links, and then download video and audio files. Yes, YouTube is supported, if that’s what you wanted to know. After the app processes the link, it shows you a list of similar videos, so you can download any of those.
As you start the download, you can select the quality of the resulting file: video resolution, if it’s video, and audio quality, if you want to keep audio-only. The ads before and within the main videos are, of course, skipped. After the files are downloaded, you can access them with any file manager in your Downloads folder; but if you only want those you got with Vidmate, you better view then within Vidmate.
There is a Private section you can protect with a 4-digit password. Files protected with it won’t be seen by external apps. You only can access them with Vidmate. And this section shows regardless of whether you have any, so its presence doesn’t display a thing.
Cross-Platform Use – 3/5
For obvious reasons, Vidmate is only available for Android. It’s not sure whether it will work on older devices, but probably if you have Android 4.4 on your old tablet, it’s still worth trying, and about older versions, we’re not this optimistic.
In-App Purchases
The app shows no annoying ads, except for those of its own projects and featured media, and they are concentrated in the special tab. Vidmate can be used for free – at least, we didn’t notice any payments required for that. There are also featured pages on social media (Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, and, of course, YouTube), but they are rather inviting icons than pop-up banners and videos.
The Bottom Line
Vidmate is the app many of us dream about, especially those who have to go offline for long and want to enjoy music and videos in the meantime. You only can download Guide Vidmate from third-party sources, which raises a question of trust. But there’s no other way. We can only recommend you more caring about antivirus protection, which is crucial for Android.
