Basecamp 2 for iPhone Review

The official iPhone app for the world's #1 project management app.

For over 10 years, millions have relied on Basecamp to help them get their projects done on time, on budget, and on point. Basecamp keeps people on the same page. No matter what your role is, everyone works toward a common goal: finishing a project together.

NOTE: This app works with Basecamp 2 (released March 2012) and Basecamp Classic (released February 2004) accounts. Basecamp 3, the newest major release (October 2015) has a brand new app, tap "View More by This Developer" to get it.

While Basecamp itself is a pretty solid product, the mobile app is crap. There are too many dead ends, where you navigate to a point with no return to previous levels, no matter how you swipe, tap or press. Lacking basic navigation takes away 2 stars from this app. The other star is lost due to a fundamental flaw in Basecamp itself -- the lack of compatibility between its versions. I'm involved in multiple projects and have to constantly switch between classic, BC2 and BC3, which makes no sense. I can understand not allowing the free or low-cost users access to more advanced functions, but not giving backwards compatibility to the newest versions? Who builds software like that anymore?

Not sure what this app is missing but it would be great to have an instantaneous messenger function. Maybe the projects have something like that if you're sitting in front of your computer all day - I'll have to look at settings and what-not - I'm using basecamp on my phone bc that's what my organization uses. I wish there was a push-notification feature so I don't have to keep the app running in the background all day.

This app would be priceless if one could add comments to "To Do" lists. (If I just haven't figured that out, ignore this.) with this feature constant online updates would keep everyone up to speed. That is, if it updated more frequently. My experience is that submissions are instantaneous but receipt of news is a couple of hours or never. Again, possibly my operator error.
