Hours Time Tracking Review

Hours is the time tracker you will actually use.

"The Perfect iPhone Time Tracking App" - Forbes

"Surprisingly pleasant to use…well-thought-out interface" - TechCrunch

“The world’s easiest way of tracking your time.” - 9to5Mac

Best New Apps - Apple

With a visual timeline, smart reminders, detailed reporting, and an interface crafted by and Apple Design Award winning team, Hours turns a tedious process into — dare we say — an enjoyable one.

Time tracking seems like it should be easy…and it would be, if we were all robots. Unfortunately, humans tend to have problems with

1. Forgetting to track your time in the first place
2. Forgetting to note when you change tasks
3. Forgetting to stop a timer after you start one

So Hours lets you:
• Set smart reminders to nag you at just the right times to start and stop your timers
• Start/stop/switch timers with one tap (now even from the home screen with 3D Touch)
• Use the visual timeline to easily identify and correct mistakes
• Set rounding rules to round time to whatever interval you are used to — 6 minutes, 15 minutes, and more
• Quickly see on a calendar view which days you tracked time and which days you forgot
• Track your time by clients, projects, and tasks if you need to
• Add notes to your time entries
• View on-screen reports in the app, or email detailed CSV or PDF reports

New in 2.0:
• Sync your time with Hours on the web, where you can track time from your desktop and view beautiful reports
• Now your whole team can use Hours to track, report, and analyze time

The Hours Pro subscription, which provides additional reporting options, costs $7.99 per month. The subscription will be charged to your credit card through your iTunes account and will automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Though your subscription for the current month cannot be canceled, you can turn auto-renewal off in your account settings after purchase. ALL issues have been solved and app works exactly as expected and is accurate! Thank you for fixing the issues! Original review: Unfortunately when this application was sold the quality has deteriorated. I only use the phone app. I have access the web app but I find it clunkier to use so this review is strictly on the phone app. If you have the ability to split time and reassign, the adjustment should be reflected in reporting. If you forgot to start a timer and go back and fix it in the app it should show in the reports. This is BASIC functionality that is way below expectations. For the last few months, I’ve had to export the data and then compare the reported time to what is actually on my phone and then manually adjust the reporting to use for client billing. It’s tedious and painful but I’ve done it because I’ve hoped that the developers would resolve this reported issue. I hope others aren’t reporting their time based on a report unless they are absolutely perfect with stop/starting timers. I switch from projects many times in a day and run from meeting to meeting so it’s natural to miss a timer from time to time. I make most adjustments within a day and it’s beyond frustrating that those adjustments are not reflected in reporting. At this point, I’m continuing to use this app but I will be searching for another tool to do what I need and hopefully will find something that is actually supported. (I am going to forward this review to the app support as well). Adding to this - AGREE with review dr_kane 100%

I've been using Hours for a while to track my consulting hours, and it's great in most respects. However, I have just come to realize that using the widget can retroactively change your hours. I noticed previously that the time on the widget did not always match up properly with the time in the main timer, but I figured it was just some minor calculation quirk. I was very wrong. Today, when I stopped a timer using the widget, I saw that that it suddenly and retroactively converted approx 3-4 hours of carefully logged blocks of time into one big block of 12+ hours. I had to go back and reconstruct how much time I actually worked, and I'm not sure if I'm over or under. People rely on time trackers for their businesses. A screwup like this wouldn't be a big deal if it were just a game app, but if you're relying on it for work, it's totally unacceptable. I didn't realize that the widget could do this and now I don't know if my tracked hours for past projects were correct. This error may have led me to over- or under-bill, who knows.

Update Sep 2017 It’s been 7 months since my previous update. The bug reported in my previous update was not fixed. You can not create a project using the web app dashboard. The browser freezes. Nothing new as well. Sometimes I give apps 5 stars just to encourage the developers - what I did before for Hours. Now is the true rank Update April 2017 The more I use it the more I like the timeline idea. It's very natural. Web view freezes when I go to Dashboard and click plus icon to create a new project. Happened at work and at home in Chrome. Have to close my browser or kill the tab. --- The price, probably, could be acceptable for businesses/teams. But for personal use, $80/y is a lot. Two pricing models would be good. What if I need to sync my data or web access but NOT team/ business features?
