iTalk Recorder Review

iTalk Recorder is a full-featured recording app with a streamlined and intuitive user interface. Press the big red button to record; press it again to stop. You can append to existing recordings, choose from three levels of recording quality (11.025, 22.05, or 44.10 kHz sample rates), and manage your recordings, all with just a fingertip.

You can email recordings straight from iTalk. iTalk also supports direct file sharing through iTunes.

Whether you're recording minutes of a meeting, a lecture, or the sounds of birds singing in a meadow far from any electrical outlets, iTalk Recorder puts the sound quality you need in the palm of your hand.

Features
• High-quality handheld recording
• Easy, convenient user interface and controls
• Email your recordings directly from iTalk
• Supports iTunes File Sharing
• Auto-noise cancellation (on iPhone 4)
• Built-in search function to locate recordings by title
• User-selectable Good, Better, Best sound quality (11.025, 22.05, or 44.10 kHz sample rates)

NOTE FOR iOS 7 & 8 Users: When launching this app for the first time (either as a new purchase or following your device's OS upgrade), please tap OK when iTalk requests permission to access your device's microphone. If you're experiencing blank recordings, please ensure Microphone access is enabled. In the app, go to Settings>Privacy>Microphone and enable iTalk.

Something must be very wrong with the App Stores’ rating system. I say this because I’ve owned this GREAT app from Griffin for at least 7-8 years, and I can honestly say this a perfect recorder in every way — it’s super simple to operate, gives you 3 choices of recording quality, and also allows the user to email (as well as text) the file. Clearly, the App Store is currently completely mired in over-selection for apps, and I’m sure there are comparable recorder apps — yet all I can provide is a solid 5-Star rating for iTalk. It’s hard to believe how this app is as great as it is even without paying for the Premium Version; I’d gladly pay the couple extra bucks for the upgrade if I used it more than I do — I mainly use it for doctor visits so I can keep an accurate record of the usual information overload I often face. I don’t know why it’s SO difficult to find in the App Store, but all I can think is that this great app is buried among literally hundreds of recorder apps. Griffin Technology is a quality outfit, and this app deserves praise IMO, and sure gets my vote!

I feel stupid for having to write this negative review. Developers: Please incorporate some kind of echo cancellation, automatic gain control for the microphone, or add some kind of volume limiting feature is this app. Because microphone feedback is not suppressed at all, once a feedback loop starts, it's entirely possible to blow your eardrums out (or permanently injure them) using this app. I am scared for my hearing right now as this scenario just happened to me. I have never had anything THIS loud go into my ears in the 31 years I have been on this planet. Now the world is more muted than it was 10 minutes ago. I'll check in with my doctor if my hearing isn't normal by morning time. I've been happy with this app for a couple years now. This is the first time this has happened because I was tried this out with a headset that didn't have noise-isolated earbuds.

Kicks arse over the Native sound recording app. Some dolt pinhead 1-star reviewer asked, "Was this app made in the 80s?"- What kind of review is that? Actually certain things made in the 80s beat the hell out of things made today. But as far as THIS app is concerned? If you don't need a way to make quick CLEAR recordings then don't buy it. And the paid version is WORTH IT. I use this app daily, to record my band practices. Or to record ideas for songs. It's only as good as the iPhone mike. But it records nice and even. Transfers using wifi via iTunes. If your phone is too close to the drumkit, this WILL distort. Other than that no complaints. 1-star users are STOOPID... And don't know how to use this app. One thing though- can't find the restore purchase button on the free version of this app.
