Contacts+: A Valuable Plus To Your Communication Review

All the authors that work on this project are required to follow our guidelines. To make the most out of the app testing process, our authors launch it on various smartphones and tablets with not only the latest OS', but also the previous ones.

Google Contacts you already have on your Android is a powerful tool. But your communication still has a lot to enhance. Contacts+ is a contact manager that helps you optimize your calling and texting, recognize the unknown contacts calling or writing you and do much more with your phonebook.

Functionality 9/10

It doesn’t require a single tap to import your contacts and history, it’s done at the first launch. You may add both your main Android account or other accounts to join. The most interesting feature symbolized by Plus is seeing the unknown callers ID. Back in the age of first mobile phones some of us had dreams of mobile profiles. Someone calls you, and you see their profiles with names, locations, photos.  You call someone you don’t know, and they see your profile, so you don’t have to explain. Congratulations, here it comes. The app scans your incoming calls through its database, and if the match is found, it’s displayed in your incoming call window. When you launch the app for the first time, the built-in bot leads you through its features: Caller ID, setting Contacts+ as the default SMS app, other minor but useful enhancements. Blacklist, contact groups, contact editor, SMS manager – Android already has it all, but Contacts+ developers have made it a bit more beautiful and pleasant to use. Built-in backup feature is based on Google's cloud service but is distinct from traditional Google backup. If for some reason it fails, you may use Contact+ as a backup’s backup. Last but not least: you can use Contacts+ to call your contacts via third-party apps, no matter if it’s Skype, WhatsApp, Messenger, Telegram or any other. People first: you find the one you need to contact, and only then select the best way of communication.

Design 8/10

The app contains three minimalistic tabs: for SMS, contacts and calls. The contacts are displayed intellectually, with Favorites on top and frequent ones above others. There’s nothing to distract you from finding the right contact and dialing it immediately. Customization settings are also wide, and the bot won’t forget to remind you about it. Just tap the link in the bot’s message and make the app look the way you like. The app gives you access to 80+ different themes. The only thing spoiling the impression is the app's interface only partially translated into other languages. It would be even better not to imply unfinished localizations at all

Usability 10/10

We didn’t run into any issue while three days of using Contacts+ as the default dialer and contact manager on three devices with Android from 4.4.2 up to 6.0.1. The app caused no slowdowns and worked as fast as the native dialer.

Cross-platform use 5/10

The app has been available for iOS once, but for reason unknown it has disappeared from the list of iOS apps, so now it’s Android users’ prerogative.

In-app purchases

The basic app version has all the features proposed, but it's ad-supported. By buying a Premium account you get rid of these ads (not so annoying, by the way) and get support by email prior to free users. But in fact, your user experience doesn’t suffer from these ads.

The Bottom Line

The most interesting thing about Contacts+ is caller’s ID that lets you see the unknown contact’s data. The other features may look a bit more attractive than in default Google Contacts, but the difference is not crucial.

A good dialer, SMS and contact manager with ads useful if you have to talk to unknown contacts often

Pros : Powerful unknown numbers recognition;
Numerous themes;
Many minor but pleasant improvements.

Cons : Android only;
Poorly translated.
