Facetime app allows you to call any iOS or Mac OS user who is in your list of contacts. The app uses 3G, 4G, LTE, or WiFi networks. You can use both cameras of your device to show your face while talking or to demonstrate what happens around you at the moment. If you use Facetime on the iPhone, you can call people right from your Phone app without the need to switch between apps. Facetime latest version also allows you to use stickers and Apple’s unique animoji. It’s a good way to make your conversations funnier.
Design – 5/5
Both Facetime iOS and Mac versions have a very simple design and clear user interface without any hidden features. During a call, you see a red button to end the call and two buttons for customization and other options. You can also see a small icon of yourself. You can tap windows of your interlocutors to make them small or full-screen.
Usability – 4.5/5
Facetime free app allows you to call Apple users anytime, anywhere they are. Similarly to Google Duo, it doesn’t allow you to exchange messages and media. On the other hand, the quality of video streaming is much higher than in any competitive networks.
Apple has proprietary servers around the world that make it possible to make quality that’s not much lower than your camera provides. It means that you can demonstrate anything in detail and be sure that people you talk to don’t miss anything because of glitches. We tested the app for several years before making this Facetime review and didn’t detect any quality issues.
Cross-platform use – 4/5
Similarly to Google Duo, Facetime is a proprietary app for video and audio calls, but you’re not allowed to install it on devices that are powered with Android or Windows. It’s not available for web browsers as well. Facetime is a default client on all Apple devices. You can use the app on an unlimited number of devices using a single Apple ID to synchronize contacts and history of calls. Cellular Facetime works only on iPhone 4s and higher.
In-app purchases
Facetime app allows you to use all features and talk for unlimited hours. Low-latency streaming saves traffic, so most likely you won’t be charged with extra fees by your mobile operator.
The Bottom Line
Facetime is a perfect application for video and audio calls for Apple users. It allows you to make quick calls from any of your iOS and Mac OS devices for free. The app is integrated into your contact list, so you can always choose between Facetime and cellular calls. It also knows which of your contacts use Facetime to let you know for sure.
