AnkiDroid does things the old way: its single study mode allows you to flip a flashcard when you are ready to see the answer, set a time interval for when to show a particular card again, specify the number of cards per day, and use a handy widget to keep track of your progress. Here, you can pick ready-made flashcards from an extensive open library, or create them from scratch.
Design 4/5
As far as the design goes, the developers of AnkiDroid chose to keep things low-key. The UI looks clean and uncluttered, which is good since it allows you to focus 100% of your attention on what is important and not get confused by vivid animation, unnecessary buttons, icons, or sounds.
Usability 3/5
AnkiDroid is not as intuitive as one would expect, and the learning curve can be rather steep here. Based on quite a few AnkiDroid Flashcards reviews, it takes you a while to get your hand in creating and customizing your flashcards, and much of the work has to be done manually, which is very labor-intensive and time-consuming. The card study system appears to be highly stiff. You can’t simply choose a deck and study every card it contains, and you always need to specify a time interval at which the app will show you the flashcards. While there are thousands of readily available flashcards created by other Anki users, their quality is sometimes subpar, which can impair your learning process.
Cross-platform use 5/5
AnkiDroid Flashcards is a convenient cross-platform learning tool designed to work smoothly on desktop and mobile devices, bringing you the most flexible user experience. Using its cloud sync feature, you can easily create flashcards on your PC, and then study these on your phone.
In-app purchases 5/5
The app is not only free to download and use on your Android device, but it deserves the highest praise for being completely rid of any irritating ads and in-app purchases. It provides a safe and stress-free environment for uninterrupted learning.
The Bottom Line
Although it lacks some glamour, style, and ease of use, the app does its main job well, allowing its users to conveniently schedule their study sessions, effectively organize and quickly rearrange the existing flashcard decks, create new study cards, and monitor the overall progress. Download AnkiDroid from Google Play to see if it can meet your immediate learning needs.
