CLE Mobile Review

Attorneys can now listen to continuing legal education (CLE) programming on their iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. West LegalEdcenter has recreated its online experience with the free CLE Mobile app. All of the regulatory safeguards that states require have been incorporated in the Mobile environment. This allows you to earn credits as you would with an on demand program at West LegalEdcenter, not just with a downloaded podcast for self-study credit.

With more than 4,500 CLE courses available for download, you now have mobile access to the most comprehensive and current source for online legal training and CLE, taught by the most prestigious names in the legal industry. Our experts and world-class programs come to you. Courses cover both hot law topics as well as the core substance of law in every practice area.

Download the CLE Mobile app and you’ll find one FREE COURSE in your My Programs.

* Submit completed courses for CLE credit
* Automatically sync with your West LegalEdcenter profile
* Edit your profile, including state(s) in which you are licensed and your license numbers
* Listen to audio content
* Browse program materials
* Post to discussion forums
* Delete programs whenever you choose

* Search and download over 4,500 programs right from the app

Get the quality legal education you need– when, where, and how you want it.

Note: Internet access is required to search, download programs, and submit courses for CLE credit.

Ensure you have less than 100 program enrollments in your ‘My Programs’ on West LegalEdcenter as any more than this may cause your programs to not show up within the app.

If possible, switch from 3G/4G to Wi-Fi when downloading. Wi-Fi is almost always more reliable than 3G/4G. Switching to Wi-Fi before downloading will reduce the chances of losing your connection in the middle of your download.

    This app is not ready for prime time. It is currently taking me more than 2 hours with the app for every hour of CLE credit I am earning. Specific problems: 1. VERY difficult to download programs. I've tried this with cellular data (4G and LTE) and 4 different wifi networks. Exactly 1 of these 6 different networks work and that is only occasionally. The app would claim to have downloaded a program but then give an error message when I tried to play it. At the suggestion of technical support, I had to delete the app and reinstall twice and restart my iPad before I could successfully download. 2. As another reviewer pointed out, only wired headphones or speakers. No internal speakers. 3. The periodic attendance verification is supposed to work either with tapping a button or shaking the iPad/iPhone. The shaking option has never worked for me. (I've tried shaking every way I can think of). I like to listen as I drive. Shaking my iPhone is easy but accurately tapping a button is much more difficult. 4. A lot of stuff is not documented. The wired-headphones-only "feature" does is not mentioned. It took technical support 20 minutes to learn about this "feature". 5. Speaking of technical support, don't rely on it. The impression I've gotten when I've called for help is that they start reading and learning about the app only when someone calls. There is also a tendency to say that it works fine on their iPad so they have no idea why I have a problem. What this app is supposed to do is pretty simple and should be easy to implement. This kludge looks pretty but is implemented very poorly. NOT recommended.

    I downloaded the app for use on both my iPad and iPhone, and while the app does what it says, the user experience could be much better. First, let me speak to issues I consider most troubling. On the iPhone the app cannot reorient my slides when I flip the phone from vertical to horizontal. This makes reading along very difficult, especially for those of us with sub-optimal eyesight. I have experienced the problem reported by others that when pausing a program for any significant amount of time, it's a crapshoot as to whether I'll resume where I left off when unpausing. A feature that I think would be easy to implement but is just lacking would be allowing the audio to continue playing when I jump back to the home screen or turn off the display. If this can be done for apps like Audible, I don't see why it isn't standard. Also, I would love to see synching of location between devices. All in all, the app allows me to make better use of my West Legal Ed Center subscription, which I am grateful for, but the user experience is not without its frustrations.

    A great way to get state-accredited CLE on the go. But app has gotten very very buggy after an iphone update to OS5. Search feature won't find programs known to exist, downloads wont complete, programs appearing as downloaded wont play, with no way to erase them and redownload. And programs known to be completed disappear from completed programs, making certification of completion to state bar impossible without customer service intervention. Very frustrating to spin wheels searching for a program i want, only to be locked out of it due to download issues, then forced to go back and search for another program since that one's stuck in app bug purgatory, and then have to call someone for the certificate. The catalog of programs isn't extensive enough to put up with that. But when it works right, it's great.
