This app is meant for those who conduct their own learning courses on the Moodle platform. With this app, you can fully control your course if the material is compatible with the app. It allows for direct communication with the students, checking the tasks they complete, creating new ones, viewing stats on visits and responses, and so on. In short, it’s the teacher’s versatile tool.
Design 5/5
Who said the app for teachers has to be easy? In fact, it’s quite complicated, but that’s a part of it. The app displays to you the courses in progress, the materials you teach now, the media you embed, and all the rest you can access with it. There are special tabs for communication, for watching urgent tasks, and managing content.
Usability 4/5
It’s a mobile teacher’s tool, letting you know the situation with your courses and students. It takes a glance to see your students’ activity, to know where each one of them has got, to access grades they get and notes you make on them. There is also a calendar that lets you schedule events and reminds of the upcoming ones.
Its advanced part is communication with the students. Not only can you exchange text messages within the app. You can also, for example, set the date or the topic of the neхt lecture, making or removing choices for that.
As rich as Moodle gets in terms of features and plugins, the mobile app only covers a part of it, necessary for managing your courses. It’s not meant for creating content; but if you have specialized editing apps installed on your mobile, you can use them for making texts, pictures, videos, audios, and then upload them with this app.
Cross-Platform Use 5/5
Currently, the app is available for Android and iOS; it was also made for Windows Phone, but by the time you are reading this it may get abandoned. Its system requirements are low; though you may want to use it along with creative suites to generate content for your courses, and then hardware performance matters.
In-App Purchases
The app is a free tool, letting you access your Moodle-based sites. Still, when you create your project, you can opt for various paid Moodle plans, with various plugins and options. They impact your course, and so your mobile control as well. But it’s all done when you create the course, and it’s done on the desktop.
The Bottom Line
It’s a very specific app, made for professionals. If you are willing to create your own course, you better learn Moodle as a platform, and then pay attention to its mobile app. If you are already familiar with Moodle, then you will benefit from accessing your virtual school from wherever you may be.
