Remind: Fast, Efficient School Messaging Review

40

Remind, formerly Remind101, is a free text messaging app that helps teachers, students, and parents communicate quickly and efficiently. By connecting school communities, Remind makes it easy for everyone to succeed together. Remind is based in San Francisco, CA and is used by more than 35 million people in 3 out of 4 U.S. school districts.

* Real-time messaging for your school, group, or just a single person.
* Schedule reminders ahead of time.
* Send text messages straight to any phone.
* Translate messages into more than 70 languages.
* See who's read your messages and who's missing out.
* Plan important activities and collect funds—on time.

“Once a teacher starts to use the tool, it tends to spread through the rest of the school like wildfire. Domonique Roberts, a history teacher at University High School in Newark, N.J., has been using Remind to communicate better with parents. 'I have been messaging one student’s mom, telling her when he’s not doing homework, or if he fell asleep in class today,' Roberts says. 'She’s on top of it and his grade improved by two letter grades from the first marking period to the second, just by keeping up with her.'” – Fast Company

“…Remind’s features have proved especially popular in low-income districts, where parent engagement is a key issue for teachers, and parents’ sometimes erratic work schedules can make it difficult to get in touch by phone.” – Buzzfeed

I’ve signed up for over 2 months and joined our school’s class and have never received any announcements while a fellow parent (whom i do see as a member under “People”) has been getting announcements via push notifications every week. I have left and rejoined the class and still experiencing same issue. I still only see a few historical announcements from early Dec 2016 and nothing beyond that. I signed up 12/17/17 and have not gotten a single push notification at all - it’s almost like my account is stuck somewhere in limbo. I made sure the settings for the app allow for push notifications but nothing, never worked for me - so disappointed. I wonder how many people are missing out on their important school announcements. Next i will try to delete my account and the app and start from scratch again...

After the most recent update I can’t delete or edit already scheduled texts that haven’t been sent out yet. This is a problem as situations change and plans need to be altered. I’m writing this review in hopes the developers fix this issue. Other than that, this is a great way to tell the mass majority in a club/class/organization about events and plans. I highly recommend this app for all those who wish to make it easier on themselves to properly distribute information ahead of time or on the fly.

I’ve used this app for a year and a few months, and I’ve got to stay that it’s really useful. It’s human to forget, especially when your in school and you have lots of assignments to complete from plenty of different classes. It’s comforting to know that your teaches are ready to inform you about assignments due the next day and respond to you when you have questions after class. It’s a breath of fresh air to know that you’ll always be *reminded* of anything that you have forgotten. - AM
