Maybe it’s a bad setting or something but I find the data in the app very hard to read. When I first got the app several years ago it was fine but it keeps getting “prettier” and less useful. For one thing, object labels are missing if they are near the edge of the screen. As you get them closer to the center their labels show up as an unreadable gray. Finally, when they are almost in the center they are in a tiny but somewhat readable white font. Why aren’t they white all the time? If you’re using the app to try and find something you have to center the thing first. That’s hard to do if you don’t know where it is. Another hard thing to see is the horizon. It’s very subtly darker than the sky. Why not make it better defined? The planets are hard to find too. The pretty icons on the map can help but the red text is too dark against the black background. Things near the galactic equator are hard because the Milky Way image is much too bright. Finally, the new moon is shown as black. OK, it really is but if you’re trying to find it, good luck. If you center where this invisible object is, of course, then you may be able to spot the tiny white label. It would hurt the prettiness, I guess, but I’d love to see a white outline on it. Finally, this is the slowest app I have when I start it. It has pretty little animations of its name for a good 10 seconds. I didn’t get it for that. Basically it sacrifices utility for aesthetics.

Updated 11-21-2017 I gave it another try and opened the app and kept turning my iPhone around until I saw a white line at the bottom of the screen. I swiped up on the white line and I was out of the app. I just noticed the white line in other apps late yesterday. Updated 11-20-2017 Star Walk has not been updated in 7 months. I can open it on iPhone X but once in it doesn’t allow me to swipe to get out of app. The only “exit” from the app is to reboot my iPhone. Completely unacceptable. I reported it to them on 11-0-2017. Still not updated. Meanwhile I am getting constant updates from other developers. Updated 10-10-2016 Once more it opens to a black screen or to a partially displayed screen that is frozen. Customer service said to delete and do a hard reset of iPhone and then reinstall. I did and it worked for a week. No longer works. Updated 01-22-2015: more bad news - now it crashes when I try to open it. This app does not work on iOS 8. I reported it to support on Sept 22, 2014. This is their response: "Thank you for contacting VITO Technology customer support service. Your report is greatly appreciated, we will examine the issue. Best regards VITO Technology Customer Support Team Twitter @starwalk” The live view does not work, the gallery view does not work and if they have “examined the issue” they certainly have not fixed it. Appalling customer service.

My favorite part is if you get to far out with no service (always the best stars) IT STILL WORKS! We camp for 2wks every summer up in the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming and there is no hope of service until off of them, but this app is a camping party favorite EVERY year not to mention It is all I ever wanted growing up! As a teen I saved my mowing money for a cordless phone (pre-cellphone era) and would lay in our pasture for hours and hours all summer long with my glow in the dark constellation coffee table book and Gf on the phone, now I can just hold up my phone and know my stellar address, neighbors and man made junk, I will never look at the stars the same 10/10
