iHeartRadio Free Music & Radio Review

Guidelines
All the authors that work on this project are required to follow our guidelines. To make the most out of the app testing process, our authors launch it on various smartphones and tablets with not only the latest OS', but also the previous ones.

iHeartRadio Free Music & Radio is an app that provides you with a live radio and custom version of the Internet radio. It is developed by Clear Channel and gives you an ability to listen to more than 1,500 live radio stations of different popular genres like pop, rock, country, hip-hop, R&B and more. With the iHeartRadio, you can also stay tuned to the latest media news, sports events, and your favorite talk shows. And everything is available for you for free.

iHeartRadio Free Music & Radio plays the AM and FM radio, more than 20 million songs from 450 thousands artists, streams new and past episodes of your favorite podcasts and talk shows on such topics like News, Sports, Finance, Comedy, and Entertainment. While you’re listening to any song, the app shows its title, and with the “Scan” icon you can vary your music-discovery process and find even more songs that are similar to this one.

If you do like any song, you can always save it and create a custom station with “My Favorites Radio” and get back to it later. When you "favorite" a particular song, you can purchase it on iTunes. You can save music stations as well, but unfortunately, you can’t create any playlists.

iHeartRadio gives you an ability to listen to live radio so that you’re able to catch up with what's being played on any radio station across the country. 20 various genres and stations are available to you: from pop, country, rock, electronic to urban, talk and college stations. Search for music by genre or location and listen to it or skip it by moving on to another one. Stations don’t depend on locations, and you can even search for those with similar music.

Another iHeartRadio’s feature is a custom radio that lets you create a station by saving a song or singer you like. But to use it you need to connect to Facebook or your Google account and provide iHeartRadio with your basic profile information. Also, iHeartRadio has a feed with some media news articles and upcoming events like iHeartRadio-sponsored live shows.

Design 4/5

iHeartRadio has a beautiful design with a nice and intuitive interface. Everything is focused on live streams. Therefore, the app’s homepage prominently shows you 20 different genres like Comedy, Talk, Jazz, Sports, News, Rock and other categories. When you’re clicking on a genre of your choice, iHeartRadio reminds what are your interests and identifies this way what you’d like to hear.

You can navigate through the app by the small panel on top that has categories like “For You,” “My Stations” and “Local Radio.” There is also a menu icon at the top left corner and a search bar at the right. When you click on any song, you will see the album’s image in the middle and a little control panel at the bottom. It lets you like/dislike a song, play or stop it and save to your favorites. Even though the app’s design in overall looks good, some parts might look a bit unattractive and outdated. So iHeartRadio needs some visual refresh

Usability 4.5/5

Downloading and installing iHeartRadio Free Music & Radio app is incredibly simple. When you launch the app at first, you will be asked to let iHeartRadio use your current location. This way the app can stream local radio stations that are near you. Users in the big cities won’t have any troubles with finding stations because there are lots of them.

Another useful option of iHeartRadio app is that it shows you the playing song’s lyrics or an artist’s bio page for the artist. Moreover, it gives you the ability to look through your Listen History but to use this feature you need to create an account or sign in with your Facebook profile or Google credentials. The app also gives you an option to buy music tracks from iTunes, Google Play or Amazon Music.

The iHeartRadio’s interface simplifies a lot the app’s using because it lets you skip any song without limitations so that you can turn to the next song whenever you want. There is also a quick search bar that allows you to search for the music by track, album’s title and artist.

Cross-platform use 5/5

iHeartRadio Free Music & Radio app is available for iOS, Android, Windows Phone 8 and it also has a desktop version and designed for web browsers as well.

In-app purchases

iHeartRadio Free Music & Radio app is free but has a lot of various radio promotions and commercials. It’s quite expected because you’re listening to actual radio stations. However, iHeartRadio app lacks an option with purchasing a premium account that could turn off all ads and commercials.

Conclusion

With iHeartRadio app you have access to lots of podcasts, thousands of live radio stations with 20 different genres. It also gives users an option to create custom stations based on a song or artist you like. This app has a lot of features that you won’t find in any other streaming apps. So iHeartRadio helps you find your favorite soundtracks for any mood and activity whether you are waking up, working out or relaxing.

I used to have IHeart on my Blackberry Z30. After replacing my Z30 with another one after my old one failed, I can no longer download IHeart Radio. My Z30 uses OS 10.3.2.556 as did my original Z30.
