MP3 Music Downloader
There's always a lot of things we'd like to have, and music is one of the first in this line (if not the first at all). MP3 Music Downloader is a piece of software that tries to find the right balance between our love for music and owners' love for copyright (and also let’s remember the developers’ motives). Did it result in anything worthy?
The apps with such a name are numerous in the market. Most of us hope these apps can open the gates to a place with uncountable treasures, digital Aladdin’s MP3 cave. But reality has its own moderation named “copyright” and “law”, so you have to select between unveiled piracy and decent limitations.
“MP3 Music Downloader” is the name that promises nothing but the formal possibility
to download MP3 files. And yes, the app has it. But – surprise! – its contents are limited to the music published by its authors under GNU GPL. So you won’t be able to refresh your private playlist with new top chart hits through this app.
But there are some use cases that require copyright-free music, and that’s the only excuse for this app and service. Why “excuse”? Read before you try; it can save your irritation.
The greatest disappointment for free music fans lay in the fact that the app is not a bounty bay entrance at all. If you try to search for Eminem, Green Day or Madonna, you’d better try another service, a paid one would serve you better. The developers of “MP3 Music Downloader” excluded all tracks but those the authors have published with no copyright claims. These tracks are published under GNU General Public License and free for everyone’s use.
Of course, you won’t find hits from global charts there. But this restriction can be a good feature in some cases. Maybe you edit your own videos on your phone or tablet and so you are in constant need of background music? YouTube and other video services are known to ban any video that contains a copyright-protected track. But the music you can find in this app is not copyright-protected. So come on, find the track that suits you, download it and use it.
And yes, we suggest some tracks from young artists may be the ones for your earphones, though the authors decided to lead their music the other way.
The app is first of all spoiled by endless ads and looks like you have downloaded an ad generator with a small appendix searching for music. But even we look behind, the app doesn’t look logical. It’s hard to make out how to create a playlist, where to find the music you have downloaded and so on. Happily, the developers have equipped the app with a short guide, but it’s hidden in the Setting section you have to reach yet through ads barriers.
And yes, English is the only interface language. But maybe it’s a good part of it. The translation would probably be automatic, so Chinese, Hispanic or Pinoy users would face a lot of nonsense. Oh, let it better be in English, at least, it’s correct.
And (as they say) there’s one more thing. In order to make MP3 Music Downloader free the developers stuffed it with ads, and that’s the dark side. Let alone an always-on banner at the bottom, but there are constant pop-ups that appear after each search or attempt to download a file. Whatever you click, the first thing you get is an ad. They are hard to avoid, and that X close button is often hidden so you unwillingly tap on the ad, with all the consequences. And even more of that, sometimes the ads are videos with no “Close” button at all.
As the music base is limited to copyleft music only, the best way to search is to tap the search button while leaving the search field blank. Any name you enter probably will give you back one or two tracks, if any at all.
The good thing is you can preview (or rather pre-hear) any track before downloading it. MP3 download is fast, besides that, you can select the format you’d like to store the downloaded files in. The player within the app can work with self-made playlists, so you can download a bunch of songs and play them without exporting to other apps. If you do for some reasons.
For example, you need these tracks as background music for your videos, you can find the tracks in the folder named MP3Deasy (oh what a name!) in the root directory of your device or memory card. We should note that every artist or track will be put in its own subdirectory. So its ease as a music downloader is also doubtable.
Cross-platform use 4/10
It’s a strictly Android app, though if you scan through AppStore, you’ll probably find a whole bunch of apps with similar names. And as we look at MP3 Music Downloader for Android, we quickly realize: this is not the app Apple users would like to deal with, otherwise they would have bought an Android device and rooted it. And even if you find an app with a similar name for iOS or Windows Phone, it would probably be an app from a different developer, with different design and functionality.
It’s time to sigh and complain, as the app offers us nothing paid. However hard we try, MP3 Music Downloader app won’t shut up and take our money. But to keep Music Downloader free its developers must have sold their souls to the ad devil, and there's no way out of pledge for it.
On the other hand, if you’re ready to pay for music you can only listen to at home or in your headset, you’d rather use Google Play Music or iTunes.
The only thing this app can be good for is searching background music for your videos. The search results are guaranteed to never bring you into copyright issues. And that’s the only practical use we could find for this app and its services. But if that’s what you need to prevent your videos from blocking, then why not?Collapse
An ad-stuffed monster with no popular music inside, so you’ll probably need it only if you’re into podcasting or videoblogging, and your aim is copyright-free music for any usage.
Pros : Only free music you can use in videos and mixes for public access.
Cons : The interface is stuffed with ads;
The music is limited to GPL tracks;
No popular music at all;
The tracks you have downloaded are not easy to find.
