SiriusXM App - a Great Option for Mobile Listeners? Review

Review Standarts
Our main goal is to provide full and useful app reviews. Our authors strictly follow the rules: minimum 15 hours of the real app usage experience or gameplay, test on main Android and iOS versions, test on phones and tablets.

Listening to the radio might seem a little outdated today, but it is still a great way to make a long car journey a little bit less tedious. Having a radio on can also make a lot of difference if you have to perform a lot of boring routine tasks which don’t require a lot of concentration. The development of various technologies has affected the radio, and today you can listen to hundreds of radio stations from all over the world on your smartphone or tablet (provided that you have an Internet connection). SiriusXM app for mobile devices lets you do just that, and a little more.

SiriusXM is a satellite radio service which features over 140 channels, providing its listeners with a vast array of music, news and sports broadcasts, as well as entertainment shows. Recently, SiriusXM became available to smartphone and tablets owners in the form of Internet radio. All you have to do to listen to SiriusXM on your mobile device is download and install a free app from your device’s respective app store.

To use the app, you have to be a SiriusXM subscriber. You can purchase a subscription on the service’s website, and once you log into the app with your user details, you’re good to go. When you open the SiriusXM app, you land on a homepage that shows you various programming options in categories. From here, you can browse the whole selection of SiriusXM channels, search for a particular one or just go through the categories looking for something that might interest you.

SiriusXM app has a lot of little perks that were all designed to make your user experience more pleasant. First, you can always listen to a song from the very beginning even if you stumbled upon the channel in the middle of the song. A special algorithm makes sure that songs are only played from the beginning, so you’ll never miss your favorite part of the song again. Second, if you missed an episode your favorite show, SiriusXM lets you go back for up to five hours and listen to it. This feature is only available for selected shows, but this shouldn’t be an issue because it’s not something the “conventional” radio has at all. Third, some of the SiriusXM content can be streamed on demand, offering you, even more, flexibility.

Another useful feature that makes the SiriusXM Android app stand out of the crowd is its search algorithm. If you’re looking for a particular song or artist, you can simply type its name into the search box, and SiriusXM will return a list of channels that are currently playing the song or artist in question. If no channel is playing that content live, you’ll see a list of channels that are going to play it in the nearest future. This feature might be incredibly handy for people who like a little bit more control over what they are listening to on the radio. Also, it allows you to explore the available channels quickly and efficiently, picking out the ones that are most likely to play the music you like.

If you seem to like a particular channel a lot and are likely to return to it later, you can add it to your favorites for faster, more convenient access. You can also share the channels or songs you like with friends via Twitter or Facebook. The SiriusXM Android app also lets you buy tracks from Google Play, iTunes or Amazon so that you don’t have to waste time searching for them in your preferred music store. If you like some songs so much that you want to hear them any time they’re on SiriusXM, that’s no problem for the service, either. Let SiriusXM know about your song preferences by marking your favorite tracks, and it will alert you when they are being played on one of the numerous SiriusXM channels.

Last but not least, SiriusXM delivers an impressive quality of audio streaming, which means that you can enjoy the service even with higher-end headphones. Even if the playback quality won’t match that of an uncompressed file played through a dedicated device (such as a Hi-Fi player), it is still better than most other streaming services have to offer.

Design 5/5

Despite offering so many functions, the SiriusXM app for mobile devices also has a very attractive, sleek interface that isn’t crammed with various buttons or tabs. Navigating the extensive channel collection is quite easy thanks to the categories and “smart” search algorithm. Overall, the app is very user-friendly and has a clean, fresh-looking interface, which can’t be said about all Internet radio and music streaming apps.

Usability 3/5

Many Android users have been reporting issues with the app, mainly involving crashes and freezes during playback. The SiriusXM iOS app doesn’t seem to function any better, which renders both the extensive functionality and attractive design useless.

Another issue with SiriusXM is the fact that it requires you to purchase a separate subscription for mobile app use even if you already have one for your vehicle. While the price for SiriusXM subscription is not so high, it still seems unfair that you have to pay twice for a service that might not even function properly on your mobile device.

Cross-Platform Use 4,5/5

SiriusXM mobile app is available for iOS, Android, and Windows 10 devices. Windows Phone, Blackberry and Amazon Fire users have no official way of accessing the service, although they might be able to use some apps from third-party developers.

In-App Purchases

SiriusXM is a free app and doesn’t offer any in-app purchases (provided that you have a valid subscription).

SiriusXM has an impressive selection of content, ranging from exclusive entertainment and talk shows to dozens of channels that play music in many different genres. The mobile app would’ve been a very convenient way to access SiriusXM if it wasn’t so prone to freezes and crashes. You can try SiriusXM mobile app on your phone or tablet thanks to a free trial, and if you experience any problems during that period, you might be better off investing your money in a different Internet radio service.

Use the free trial option to check how SiriusXM is going to function on your device - the chances are that it is going to deliver a substandard performance, so there is no point in purchasing a subscription.

Pros : High-quality content;
Free app;
Many features for convenient and pleasant user experience.

Cons : Requires a separate subscription;
Keeps freezing and crashing.

    Love your play lists. I am listening to your Top One Hundred instrumental program. I can't record it, my suggestion would be for you to produce CDs and sell them to your listeners. There have been several other play list like this you have presented that I would also be very interested in purchasing. It would surprise me if there were many others who would be interested in such collections.
