Is It a Good Idea to Use the Fox News App on Your Mobile Device? Review

Review Standarts
Our main goal is to provide full and useful app reviews. Our authors strictly follow the rules: minimum 15 hours of the real app usage experience or gameplay, test on main Android and iOS versions, test on phones and tablets.

The modern world is constantly evolving, and it is sometimes hard to keep up with all the changes. Fortunately, you no longer have to wait for your morning newspaper or radio news broadcast to find what’s going on around the globe. With the advance of the Internet, most major news providers have seen its potential as a powerful outlet for their content, and today you can catch up with the latest news online - in the fastest and most efficient way. Fox News followed the trend, so now you can not only read the news on their website but also check them out in a mobile app. Is this a good way to catch up on the latest events? Keep reading to find out.

The Fox News app has been around for a while, and by now it has become a great way to check out the news on your phone or tablet. First of all, the content is updated on a regular basis, so you’ll always be among the first ones to find out what’s happening around the world. Some news updates are even real-time ones, so you can experience the events almost as if you were there. Second, you can choose among several media types available in the app. Whether you like watching, reading or listening, Fox News has something in store for you. Finally, all news stories and reports are categorized for your convenience, so that you can only focus on what’s really interesting for you.

When you open the Fox News app, you are taken to a homepage which contains all of the latest and most important news across various categories. You can only see the headlines here, but you can tap on any of them to be transferred to the full story tab, which allows you to adjust the font size, share the story through a variety of social media or bookmark it. The last feature is especially handy if you don’t have enough time to read the report but find it interesting enough to come back to it later. In addition, if you scroll all the way down to the end of a story, you’ll find an assortment of similar stories suggested to you by Fox News. It’s highly likely that you’ll find at least one of those suggestions worth your attention.

You’ll also find the Fox News app weather section quite useful because now you don’t need to switch apps to throw a glance at the weather forecast. All you have to do is open the side menu of the app, and choose the “My Weather” option. The side menu contains a lot of useful shortcuts that can take you straight to the “Latest News”, “Live TV” or “Shows” sections. To watch the live TV, you’ll need to sign in with your cable or satellite provider data, but the shows are available to anyone for free. The “Latest News” tab is essentially your homepage, so you can quickly return to it from any other section of the app. There is also a “Saved” tab, which gives you access to bookmarked articles and videos. Videos can’t be downloaded, so you’ll always need a working Internet connection to watch the shows and news reports. If you’re a non-native English speaker, you’ll appreciate the fact that you can turn on the subtitles for just about any video.

Below these four tabs, you’ll find links to various news categories available in the Fox News news app, including Politics, Opinion, Entertainment, Health and Science. If you’re interested in the world of trade and economics, you’ll find the Fox News business tab particularly appealing. Here you’ll find articles about everything that makes the economic world tick. The app also features separate sections for news from the US and the rest of the world. Finally, if you’re looking for something more specific than just categories, you can use the search box, which is situated at the top of the side menu.

Another useful feature of the Fox News Android and iOS app is the ability to turn on alerts for breaking news. You’ll get a notification from the app when there’s something important going on, and you can follow the event live or just check in to see how it is developing.

Design 5/5

The design of the app is visually attractive, making good use of the contrasting white background and darker interface elements. Despite the app’s extensive functionality, the interface is clean, sleek and user-friendly.

Usability 4/5

Downloading and installing the app is easy, and the user experience would’ve been really smooth and pleasant if it wasn’t for the fact that the Fox News Fox app is ad-supported. It’s not only about the fairly unobtrusive banner at the bottom of every page you view, but also about the ads that keep popping amidst the news stories headlines, which is pretty distracting and gets annoying soon. If you don’t find ads an issue, you shouldn’t have any problems with the Fox News app.

Cross-Platform Use 5/5

You can download the Fox News app for a lot of devices. Starting with the traditional iOS and Android support, the app’s cross-platform availability extends to Windows Phone/Mobile, Windows 10, Blackberry OS and Amazon Fire tablets.

In-App Purchases

Fox News is a free app, and it doesn’t offer any in-app purchases. The app is ad-supported, though, so it might have been better if users could choose between facing the ads and purchasing an ad-free version of the app.

Fox News is a major news provider not only in the US but also all around the world. If you are used to getting your news updates from Fox, this app will be your logical choice for mobile news browsing. If you’re not so keen on getting content from Fox News, you might want to consider some other apps, such as BBC News, CNN or The Guardian.

The Fox News app is definitely a strong competitor on the news apps market, but it is sometimes difficult to concentrate on the news because of the ads that can’t be removed - and that may be the dealbreaker for you.

Pros : Lots of high-quality content;
Breaking news alerts;
Subtitles for most videos;
Access to many Fox News shows;
Handy bookmarking feature;
Nice, user-friendly interface.

Cons : The ads might be too obtrusive for some people;
No way to remove the ads via an inapp purchase;
The weather tab sometimes won’t identify your current location.
