Microsoft Excel: Familiar Features On Your Mobile Device
If you work in business, whether you are a marketer, entrepreneur or accountant, you will periodically deal with Excel documents. It’s not always easy to prepare a spreadsheet especially without a computer near you. If you want to solve this problem, Microsoft Excel app is designed to help with creating and editing spreadsheets on the go.
Microsoft Excel is a reliable app, which displays spreadsheets exactly as they would look on your computer. Using the app, you can add tables and formulas to selected columns, as well as take advantage of the conditional formatting to make your reports clear and easy to understand.
The developers have added features that allow you to sort and filter some of the data in seconds. And along with that, to transform numbers into charts and tables.
If you want to save time you can use a special formula keyboard to access all formulas and numbers much easier. However, you will need some prior knowledge of how PC version works to use the feature, especially when inserting formulas.
The app also supports cloud-enabled services such as Dropbox and Microsoft One Drive so that you can save your spreadsheet and open it on any device.
Nevertheless, there are still a few things you can’t do in the Microsoft Excel app: you can’t create or edit the comments in the app; you can’t name cells or ranges, enter array formulas, or create conditional formatting rules. You also can’t insert images from OneDrive or Dropbox — only from your device’s photos. And to work with two or more spreadsheets, you have to close one to open the other.
The Microsoft Excel interface is fast, fluid, easy to use. You can create incredibly complicated charts without much effort as the design is clear and simple that allows you not to spend much time to figure out how the main features work.
The app provides an intuitive touch experience, making your work more enjoyable.
There is no difference between the smartphone and tablet versions but using Excel on the tablet is a much better experience as you have a bigger screen in your palm. The smartphone screen may seem too small for most operations except the most basic editing. If you craft a document or make significant edits, it’s better to reach for your tablet.
Plus, the smartphone screen has no room for the ribbon — to call it up, you have to tap the Edit icon, which opens an edit area taking up almost a third of the screen. Then if you want to select Formulas you’ll need to tap another pop-up and scroll through the formula browser. While using the tablet, though, the ribbon is always visible, and by choosing it, you will lose only one line on the display.
Cross-platform use 10/10
The Microsoft Excel app is compatible with both Android and iOS devices. To use the app on Android platform you will need a version 4.4 or later, and for on iOS — 9.0 or later.
The Microsoft Excel app has two feature packs: Free and Premium. Premium features are available with the Office 365 personal account, which you can use on one computer, one tablet, and one phone for £5.99 per month, and Office 365 Home to use on five devices of each type for £7.99 per month. You’ll also get one terabyte of OneDrive storage, which you can use both in Excel and as a general cloud storage drive.
With the features only open to Office 365 account you can:
- Use customizing pivot table styles and layouts;
- Add custom colors to shapes;
- Insert and edit WordArt;
- Add reflection styles and shadows to pictures;
- Add or modify chart elements.
However, you’ll probably find that the free version meets your needs as well.
With the Microsoft Excel app, you can use all the familiar features from PC version on your tablet or smartphone.
This app allows you to open, view, create and edit your Excel documents. It’s designed properly for all type of devices so that the spreadsheets appear on the screen with no distortions.
