Google Translate Review
Google Translate is a free app for translating text documents and websites between more than 100 languages. It analyzes a huge array of texts translated by people and translates the vocabulary and grammar of one language to another in digital form. The app was launched in 2007 and today has more than 200 million users a month.
Google Translate is not just a regular translation tool. It has a huge set of bright features that can be used any users from tourists to professional translators.
As for me, the most brilliant feature of Google Translate is a Conversation mode. This app lets you speak and get a translation in any of 50 languages without pushing any buttons; it can also speak a translation back to you. Moreover, it can listen for two and more people talking simultaneously and translate their words into different languages. The app can manage voice translations in such languages as English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Russian. But more languages should be added with some time.
So, Google Translator feels like having a human translator standing right next to you. However, the Conversation mode can sometimes lag like starting to translate not at the right time or pick up unnecessary words. Also, the Google Translator understands everything literally, so it can’t usually translate phrases or slang correctly.
There is another bright feature in the app - Word Lens. It lets Google translate any text in a live mode right after you aim a camera at a sign, image or a page. You don’t even have to look for an internet connection to get a translation. But the feature can sometimes fail because of the poor text’s size or quality and your trembling hands, for example.
Google Translate can also give you some information about famous landmarks. You can just snap a photo of any building's sign and get a list of search results associated with this place.Google Translate also has an SMS translating feature which is extremely useful because you don’t even need to leave your messages to understand a text.
You can draw whatever you want with your finger on the screen and get it translated because Google Translate identifies printing and cursive letters easily. The app can also scan any text and instantly display a translation on a screen. Moreover, the app keeps a history of all your translations and gives the ability to flag anything and access it later even being offline.
Google Translator has an intuitive and straightforward interface. It’s so simple that will be understandable to any user for sure. There are two windows: the one is where you should type in a word or phrase, and another one below shows you a translation. You will also see the speaker icon that can voice a translation and an icon with a camera that scans text or translates it from an image.
For a drawing option, you won’t likely have enough space on the screen to write many words. Therefore you can add one word, tap the spacebar to move onto another and finish the whole phrase this way. When you're done, you can read the translation and even make it voiced.
Google Translate is a useful app for people who doesn’t have ay knowledge of a particular language and needs to understand it anyway. The app will help you in any situations which need a simple translation. Therefore Google Translate is a perfect option for tourists going on vacations. The app is also can be fun for kids letting them play around with different languages.
Google Translate gives you an ability to download more than 50 language packs available for offline support. This allows you to get a translation whenever you need it. Also can be useful for tourists because they don’t always buy an international mobile plan for the internet. However, these packs take some memory, and you should remember that you’ll need to download at least two languages to have a successful translating process. Offline translations are available almost in all languages.
Cross-platform use 4/5
Google Translate are introduced in a few versions: mobile app, API, web interface. The mobile version is compatible only with Apple and Android products.
Google Translate is free-to-use and doesn’t charge users for anything additionally. So you can just download the application, start your translation and not to be worried about the future app using.
Google Translate is an incredibly useful app that will help you quickly get a translation whenever you need it. Even though this app loses words sometimes, struggles with syntax or grammar and in overall needs to be improved, people still like Google Translate for its simplicity and great features that are not available anywhere else. Exactly because this service is so convenient in use, Google Translate has more than 500 million people using it every month.Collapse
Google Translate is an amazing app for free translation with many great features and is a must-have app for traveling.
