Google Chrome Continues To Support Windows 7 Until The Middle Of 2021
Not so long ago, Facebook announced the termination of official support for WhatsApp on some versions of Android and iOS and the complete cessation of the application on all versions of Windows Phone. And now Microsoft in their blog post published information that starting from January 14, 2020, they are no longer supporting and releasing updates for Windows 7. More details are below.
Is It The End?
In spite of the fact that officially Microsoft will no longer release the updates for Windows 7, you can still get them. The transition from one technology to another is very long and gradual. Moreover, the larger the company is, the longer this process can drag on. That is why Microsoft offers businesses the opportunity to extend support for the operating system for up to three years. It is called Windows 7 Extended Security Update (ESU) program. However, if you decided to use this opportunity, you need to pay some amount of money.
Also, the end of supporting does not mean the destruction and complete removal of Windows 7. It will continue to function but without regular security updates. So, if you want this version of the operating system to remain, you need to understand that all your personal data will become very vulnerable.
Google Will Support Windows 7 Until The Middle Of 2021
Another very frequent practice after the company announces the termination of official software support is when other companies declare that they continue to support their product on their own. It was the case of Windows XP. When Microsoft announced the end of releasing new updates for this version in 2014, Google Mozilla, Valve, Dropbox, and other companies continued its support for another 2-3 years. Now the situation is very similar. Despite the fact that Windows 7 reached the end of supporting, Google Chrome will continue to release updates for this version: “We will continue to fully support Chrome on Windows 7 for a minimum of 18 months from Microsoft’s End of Life date, until at least July 15, 2021”.
What To Do?
