Google Photos Celebrates Anniversary With Stunning Statistics on Freepps Top Blog

Whether we like it or not, we cannot deny that Google services play a key role in many web- and mobile-related activities.

Android users have the company to thank for the system keeping their devices running and a number of useful apps that make their time at and off work more practical and enjoyable

PC users have a smaller arsenal of Google products to choose from but are nonetheless able to achieve many things with services like Google Search, Translate, Scholar, etc. Among the services available to both mobile and PC users is Google Photos, which has recently celebrated its first anniversary.

On its anniversary, Google Photos proudly announced that its user base has grown to 200 million active users per month. This is a staggering figure that far exceeds the population of many of the world’s biggest countries. In fact, this number is only expected to grow and multiply as more people learn of the service and try it out.

If uploading and sharing images with Google Photos becomes as popular as their core services, upwards of 1 billion users may be expected to join in the trend. Another big number that Google Photos presented was 13.7 petabytes.

One home for your photos

This number refers to the size of all the files stored by users on the service. For users used to dealing with megabytes and gigabytes, the term petabyte is probably unfamiliar.

You can look at a petabyte this way: an HD video file 13.3 years in length would equal one petabyte.

In this perspective, the amount of user data in 13.7 petabytes is colossal.

The announcement of these figures surely made its users proud, but bragging wasn’t the sole purpose of the announcement. Looking back on its first year, Google Photos also reviewed some of its best features, pointing out little tips and tricks you might have missed or failed to master in your experience with the service.

Here are some of the great features and nifty tricks Google Photos offers:

  • Uploads and storage of photos and videos;
  • Remote storage for freeing up memory;
  • Automated assistant for media generation;
  • Sophisticated searches by people, objects, qualities, and tags;
  • Synchronization between mobile devices;
  • Photo sharing, group uploading.

Those are some of the great offerings Google Photos has rolled out in its freshman year. Given the massive and ever-growing user base and the company’s dedication to improvement, there is no doubt that the service will only become more popular and sophisticated in the years to come.

However, for now, we can just enjoy being part of the pioneers of the useful service.
