Super Mario Run Review
Super Mario Run has arrived to iOS devices, and the act of playing it is every bit as fun and challenging as the fans could have hoped for. Mario goes on a mission to save Princess Peach, and you’re the one who helps him do it.
Super Mario Run has colorful and smooth graphics with all the familiar enemies and general concepts. Besides, there are also new bosses, new exciting challenges, and different worlds designed in a vivid Mario fashion.
Mechanics and level features vary widely. As you proceed, you will face more creative and complicated levels with different blocks, obstacles and even new enhancements like timer boosts.
Each detail fits into the original Nintendo style, which Mario fans will appreciate.
Nintendo knows how to remix familiar games, and Super Mario Run is no exception. The gameplay feels like the original Nintendo game featuring Super Mario running from left to right, hopping onto enemies, jumping to avoid pits and collecting coins.
The first three levels in the World Tour mode, which are free, are deceptively easy as the strong enemies and tricky obstacles come into play later on. Thus, free users won’t face them at all.
Super Mario Run has six worlds with the four levels per each — 24 levels in total. Plus, for each level you get two bubbles, which you call out to lift you and place back on the platform when you falls into some pit.
This feature, however, only partially makes the game easier as the timer doesn’t reset once Mario returns and you lose precious seconds to make it to the flag in time.
The levels are short, but there are other exciting things to do in the Super Mario Run game besides running through the World Tour mode.
The Toad Rally is separate from the Tour and allows you to compete with the players around the world and collect the most coins within a time limit. The more coins you gather, the more toads cheer on you. And the person with the most toads wins.
This mode connects with Kingdom Builder, where you can spend the coins you’ve earned to create your own toad kingdom with new buildings and items like rainbow bridges and warp pipes.
Nintendo has transitioned the gamepad controls of Mario game by making their mobile version an auto-runner, where you just have to tap to jump.
Mario runs continuously through the game only having short stops when you reach the pause blocks. You don’t even need to hop on small enemies — this deft plumber will automatically leap over them. However, if it seems too easy for you, there is an option to tap and destroy the enemy who dares to stand in your way.
The automatic left-right movement may reduce your freedom, but it turns a Super Mario Run into a more strategic experience. It encourages you to find the right way to abuse or break the rule of forced movement and access areas that seem impossible.
Replay Value 4,5/5
Super Mario Run provides you with a great replayability by its various challenges. In the World Tour mode, each level contains three types of Challenge Coins — pink, purple and black — which are increasingly harder to collect.Toad Rally and Kingdom Builder also aims to provide further motivation to keep you coming back. Collecting the coins on the rally, you will be able to purchase decoration items and new playable characters such as Luigi, Toad, and Peach.

Super Mario Run is a freemium game. Thus, there are only three levels you can play as many times as you like and with no charge. The rest 21 levels are locked behind a one-time purchase of $9.99.
