Magic Jigsaw Puzzles - Your Favorite Game Now Fits in Your Pocket
It is a common misconception that adults are too mature and have too much on their plate to play games. In fact, some adults love games just as much as children do, and turn them into hobbies as they grow up. Jigsaw puzzles are a great example of a game that can be played by grown-ups with great pleasure. If you’re one of those adults, you can take your passion for solving puzzles one step further - straight into the ecosphere of your mobile devices. Magic Jigsaw Puzzles is an app which allows you to do assemble jigsaw puzzles on your phone or tablet, so that you can take your hobby with you wherever you go. Is it really a convenient way to do jigsaw puzzles? Let’s take a closer look.
The Magic Jigsaw Puzzles app boasts an impressive functionality, which should be enough to satisfy even the most demanding puzzle lovers. First of all, there is a vast variety of puzzles to choose from - currently over 20000, and the developers promise to keep adding new pictures on a regular basis in the future. That’s a whole lot of puzzles to do, and even though the “real” jigsaw puzzles are fairly inexpensive, the app could still save you a hefty sum of money. The huge collection of images has been categorized for your convenience. The most popular categories include animals, landscapes, portraits and paintings.
Second, if the whole gallery of Magic Jigsaw Puzzles seems to contain no pictures that you’d enjoy working on, you can go on and create a puzzle out of any photo of your own. Be sure to choose a high-resolution photo, otherwise you won’t be able to fully enjoy the “puzzling” experience.
Third, you can play this game both as a beginner and as a pro. If you’re new to the whole jigsaw puzzle thing, you might want to choose a lower difficulty level at first. There are five levels in Magic Jigsaw Puzzles. Basically, by choosing a level, you configure the number of pieces that you’ll have to work with. If you choose level one, you’ll only have 24 puzzle pieces to put together, which is fairly easy and will work fine for complete novices or small children. If you’re a more experienced player, you’ll want to go straight to level four or even five (280 and 630 puzzle pieces, respectively). Also, if 630 puzzle pieces aren’t enough of a challenge for you, you can turn the rotation mode on.
Finally, there are some more perks to Magic Jigsaw Puzzles which don’t matter that much, but still make the game more fun and interesting to play. You can work on multiple puzzles at the same time - a great feature for those who love diversity and can’t bear to stay in the same place for long. In addition, you can share your puzzle success with family and friends through social networks. Last but not least, Magic Jigsaw Puzzles adds another social component to the beloved game: you can upload your own images and have other users play with them and comment them. All of this adds to the fun you can have with Magic Jigsaw Puzzles.
For an app with such great functionality, the design could’ve been a little more sophisticated. It is fairly usable, and it does the job of letting you navigate through the app just fine, but it looks pretty crude and cluttered sometimes. A more refined, sleek design would’ve been welcome for Magic Jigsaw Puzzles because it would definitely contribute to bringing the user experience to a new, higher level.
Here’s where the Magic Jigsaw Puzzles app doesn’t seem to shine, either. While navigating the app menu is a no-brainer, actually assembling the puzzle pieces might be a bit of a challenge, and not in a good way. The first problem you’re likely to encounter is the fact that Magic Jigsaw Puzzles is an ad-supported app, which means that there is a hefty amount of advertisement banners scattered around the user interface. One of them happens to be situated under the tray where you find new puzzle pieces. Apart from being a major source of distraction, the banner may also get tapped accidentally when you select and drag a puzzle piece away from the tray.
In addition, you might find the playability level of Magic Jigsaw Puzzles insufficient if you’re playing it on a phone with a smaller screen (less than 5 inches). Playing it on a 5.5 inch screen is okay as long as you don’t have too many puzzle pieces. As soon as you go to higher difficulty levels, the gameplay starts to feel too cluttered because there is simply not enough space on the screen to comfortably accommodate all the pieces and allow you to work with them.
Finally, some users seem to encounter a fair amount of problems with the app itself: they keep getting crashes, bugs or freezes. The developers do respond to these issues and fix them in the app updates, but you wouldn’t want to lose your whole progress on a 630-piece puzzle, would you?
Cross-Platform Use 10/10
You can download and install Magic Jigsaw Puzzles not only for your Android phone or tablet, but also for iOS and Windows-based devices. The app is also available to download from the Amazon App Store, and you can play from your Mac or PC using your Facebook account.
Magic Jigsaw Puzzles is a free ad-supported app, and it also offers in-app purchases. For instance, you have to pay once to be able to create puzzles out of your own pictures (it also removes the ads, so it’s a good investment if you feel like you will be playing Magic Jigsaw Puzzles for a while). You can also purchase the in-game coins to exchange them for puzzle packs later.
Magic Jigsaw Puzzles is currently an attempt to implement the great idea of bringing jigsaw puzzles to our smartphones, tablets and computers. The app has a good functionality, but its usability may be arguable for some players. All in all, it is worth checking out as of now, and it has all chances of becoming an all-time favorite for puzzle lovers provided that future updates bring some design and usability improvements.Collapse
Magic Jigsaw Puzzles might have its flaws, but it definitely deserves your attention even if you’re no fan of puzzles.
Pros : New, portable way of doing jigsaw puzzles;
Lots of free images to choose from;
Cross-platform availability and sync (through Facebook).
Cons : Rather disappointing design;
Needs usability improvements.
