Panda Pop - Over Two Thousand Levels of Unlimited Fun Review
If you remember those times when phones were mostly used to actually make calls, had no touch screens and weren’t “smart” at all, you probably played some of those Java games with primitive graphics which seemed unbelievably awesome back then. The chances are that one of your favorite games was a “bubble shooter” type arcade, where you had to direct colorful balls or bubbles so that they would hit objects of the same color and pop them. Panda Pop is an attempt to recreate and enhance that gaming experience, bringing it to modern Android and iOS devices. How successful is it? Keep reading to find out.
Panda Pop is a mobile game that currently features more than a two thousand levels, which is quite impressive all by itself. Starting with some pretty simple levels where you don't really have to think, the game progresses to present you with more and more serious challenges.
When you first install the Panda Pop app, it offers you to connect the game to your Facebook account. If you choose to do that, you get an in-game reward - 40 coins, which you can later spend on various power-ups. Coins are available as in-app purchases in various-sized packs. Also, connecting to Facebook will allow you to play the game with your friends.
The whole gameplay revolves around a panda family who got into trouble. An evil baboon stole the panda babies and hid them inside those very same colorful bubbles that have to be popped. Of course, Mama Panda comes to the rescue of her kids, and you have to help her make the right choices and manage to pop all bubbles so that the panda babies can be freed from the baboon.
The first couple of levels are really easy, and you can get the highest score trouble-free (that’s if you care about the score in this game at all). However, as you move along the map (which reveals more than a hundred location with over two thousand levels), you’ll discover that the bubble popping is getting more and more difficult. That’s also when you’re going to discover that there are lots of power-ups to help you on your way. First of all, you get colorful lanterns which can give your bubbles special powers. For instance, if you have a red lantern available during a level, you need to pop a certain amount of red bubbles first to fill the lantern up. Once it is filled, you can activate it, and it will make one of your bubbles cause a little explosion when it hits the other bubbles, no matter what their color is. Later, you’ll also get blue lanterns (wash away one row of bubbles), green lanterns (contain a plant that grows upwards and destroys several layers of bubbles), and more. Lanterns can be recharged not only by popping bubbles but also with in-game coins.
Second, there is also a wide array of power-ups which can be activated for one level. Once you complete the level, the power-up expires, and you have to either buy a new one with coins or wait until you complete an in-game challenge and get the power-up as a reward (playing two days in a row or scoring 50 stars in total are your typical examples of challenges). The power-ups include the ability to see the complete trajectory of the bubble you’re about to shoot, see not one, but two next bubbles in the dispenser and many others.
Overall, the Panda Pop app for your mobile devices has quite a lot to offer for a casual gamer: literally thousands of levels, gameplay that keeps introducing new elements and just the right amount of challenge to keep you interested. Given that the app is free, you get yourself a great deal for killing some time on the commute or while waiting in a queue.
The gameplay of Panda Pop has an almost flawless design, with its high-quality graphics that make the cute panda family and colorful bubbles look fun and attractive. The game menu elements might seem a little oversized and primitive, but they do their job just fine nevertheless.
The Panda Pop download and installation process is fast and easy to accomplish for any user. Once the app is installed, it doesn't need any setup (except for an optional Facebook connection). Panda Pop runs smoothly even on devices with low specifications, so your gaming experience is unlikely to be interrupted by any freezes or crashes.
Cross-Platform Availability 10/10
You can download and install Panda Pop for your Android phone or tablet. There is also a Panda Pop iOS, as well as Windows Phone/Mobile version available. The app is universal, so it will fit the screen of any device automatically, whether it is a tablet or a smartphone.
Panda Pop is essentially a mobile game, but you can also play it on your Windows 10 PC or tablet. There is even a way to play Panda Pop on a Mac or a PC with Windows 7, Vista or XP. All you have to do is install an Android emulator on your computer, download the Panda Pop Android app and run it using the emulator. This is not an official way, so the app might not run properly at all times, but it is still a working option.
Panda Pop is a free app, but it offers in-app purchases. You can purchase coin packs to exchange the coins for in-game items later. Panda Pop Android players might be tempted to overcome the lack of coins by installing an unofficial app mod with unlimited coins, but this is cheating, and it is unfair to other players, as well as the app developer.
Panda Pop is a good example of a high-quality casual game, which is equally suitable both for children and grown-ups. Kids are definitely going to enjoy the fun graphics and sounds, while adults are more likely to appreciate the strategic component of the game.Collapse
Download the Panda Pop free app and experience the challenging gameplay alone, with friends or maybe even your kids - it’s fun for everyone!
Pros : Free game with hundreds of levels;
Solid cross-platform availability;
Cons : Coin packs are quite expensive (you don't get a lot of ingame currency for the real money).
