Banner Saga 2

For the uninitiated, this game is a story-based RPG inspired by real Viking myths and a sequel to Banner Saga. It will take you to a fantastic location where you have to survive the end of the world. Banner Saga 2 begins right where the first part left off. You can import your previous saves or start from scratch. It’s even possible to play the game like 2 long episodes in one story if you want.

But don’t be scared that you won’t understand anything if you haven’t played the first part of the game. Stoic has made jumping into the sequel straightforward and smooth. You’ll travel in this wonderfully illustrated dark world with your exhausted group trying to survive. Your people are hungry, tired, and practically d

esperate, so you’re their only hope.

Graphics 5/5

The game’s graphics is one of the most interesting topics to reveal. Imagine you're left alone in a place of terrible monsters, cruel decisions, and the onus of leadership. Banner Saga 2 conveys the atmosphere ideally.

The game offers you hand-drawn visuals. You’ll admire the beautiful 2D combat sequences and astonishing effects. It’s equally delightful to see the beautiful cut scenes and the smooth animations during the battles.

Don’t forget that you should individually customize the graphics and textures to speed up the loading time on your iOS or Android device.

Gameplay 4,5/5

The gameplay has a similar spirit with the first part of the game, but there are lots of new features, improvements, and some changes. You’ll notice that if you’ve already played Banner Saga. As you progress through the game, you have to overcome the obstacles, take part in combats, and make fateful decisions.

If you make the right choices and defeat the enemies efficiently, you get the resource called Renown. Renown or fame is the game’s only currency. You can use it in return to items, supplies, and toughening up your squad of fighters. Renown is not infinite, so use it wisely. The twist is you need it to get provisions for your caravan. If you spend too much on gear and character levels, you may end up going hungry and losing much morale.

Speaking of the combats, they are grid-based and take place on beautiful battlefields. Fighting is not an easy thing to do in Banner Saga 2. You’ll have to do that for every inch of the ground, so things are going to be violent.

All the characters have various skills and peculiarities they bring to the field. However, they also have weak points. That makes the game challenging and exciting. Always try to figure out how to both protect your units and use their strengths. Find the best ways to use buffs and debuffs. It’s the key to success.

You’ll have to find balance while playing Banner Saga 2. One unfortunate decision can nullify all your efforts. You’ll feel the constant tension while playing, waiting for things to go irreversibly wrong.

Banner Saga 2 tests your mettle in the combats and your skills that push you onwards. It gives you the feeling of responsibility for an entire people, not only a couple of heroes. Playing this game is like reading a breathtaking book. The game is narratively rich, and the story splits relatively early.

Controls 3,5/5

Touchscreen controls aren’t always comfortable to use in Banner Saga 2. On some devices the text and menu items are too small; it’s easy to tap the wrong place and perform an unwanted action.

You’ll see most story choices on the bottom middle of the screen, and it’s hard to tap quickly and accurately at the same time.

Replay Value 4/5

Banner Saga 2 will earn a long-term place on your smartphone or tablet. It keeps you coming back to it every time, even if you just finished it. The game offers you unique and precious experience, so I’m sure you’ll come for more.

In-app purchases

Banner Saga 2 offers you to buy the Survival Mode addition. It’s nearly 2 times cheaper than the game itself. This mode is about staying alive through as many battles as you can. There you may choose 6 of your favorite Heroes and pit them against the enemies. It’s possible to unlock and recruit more heroes along the way by spending Renown.

When you first tap on this mode, the game advises you to complete the campaign before trying the Survival to avoid spoilers. Maybe, that’s why this addition is paid.

The overall experience is quite positive, and no major problems are affecting the enjoyment of the game, except the loading time on some devices. Banner Saga 2 performs well and is an excellent continuation of the first part.

Lots of mobile games lack dynamism. Banner Saga 2 doesn’t. Action seeps into each aspect of the game; everything feels alive and substantial. Such liveliness borders with a sense of doom. Each choice is colored in somber tones. There are no easy decisions, and you have to think of the consequences.

Strictly speaking, Banner Saga 2 is an excellent tactical RPG with deep gameplay, incredible characters, and loads of content to keep you carried away for hours or even days.

The developers created each element of the game with love and inventiveness. Playing it is like taking part in a gloomy violent cartoon where you’ll have to choose who dies and who survives. Banner Saga 2 is profound, entertaining, cruel, and heartbreaking at the same time.

Pros : The game is deep, weird, and beautifully desperate;
New features, upgrades, and enemy types;
Beautiful hand-drawn visuals;
Improved turn-based battles;
Hard choices with real consequences.

Cons : UI doesn’t scale well on touch devices;
Loading will be too long unless you adjust the game for better performance.
